The New York Times Travel Show 2012 (VIDEO)

Over the weekend before last, I attended the New York Times Travel Show. I’d describe it as speed dating for lovers of travel. And for a travel addict like myself, it was exhilarating and exhausting all at once.

Here’s a taste of the experience…

By no means was that a comprehensive report of the event. Here is a little more about it…

On the expo floor, you could also try the local cuisine from various destinations, play with exotic animals, go scuba diving in a portable pool, actually book travel, and enter to win vacations and other prizes.

There were also all-day seminars where travel industry professionals spoke about travel-related topics. From Travel Channel hosts like Samantha Brown and Adam Richman to New York Times travel writers Seth Kugel and Michelle Higgins to the creators of the Frommer’s guides there was a wealth of information to soak in. It was all about ways to travel, where to travel, and why to travel.

Other newspapers and magazines hold their own travel shows. But this is the only one I’ve been to – this being my second year. For my Angeleno readers, The LA TIMES has one and the next will be in Feb. 2013. The Boston Globe has a show in February too. There is a Travel and Adventure show happening this weekend in DC. And I’m told the ITB Berlin, that just wrapped up this weekend, is the biggest in the world.

If anyone out there knows of more that they have gone to and enjoyed, do chime in with a comment. You can also go to this site for a pretty hefty list of travel shows the world over.
