In London, hanging in cafes, restaurants and bars is not nearly as trendy anymore as spending time with friends at a gourmet street food market.
Street food has been around for quite a while. But over the past couple years a new trend has caught fire. Abandoned parking lots are being re-purposed. Local chefs assemble pop-up stands. Bartenders serve up their specialties. Comfy sofas and picnic tables appear seemingly out of nowhere. And DJ’s preform live.
These are photos of a street food market I went to in central London during the Olympics. Not only did I get to experience this trend for myself, I got to see how real Londoners watched the Games.
First, grab yourself a burger, a crepe, a shwarma or pizza at one of the food stands.
Next, order yourself a drink at the bar.
Then find a seat where you can relax and watch a game.
Revisit the bar for a refill. My drink of choice is a Pimms Cup!
