Hiking is one of the most spectacular ways locals in Los Angeles enjoy their city on a regular basis. And there are SO MANY options!
With Nick Phillips of Hikesyoucando.com, I got to experience one of the many beautiful hikes throughout Los Angeles county and Malibu county. And that is the hike to Sandstone Peak. This trail is extra special because it takes you up to the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Come summit LA with us in this video!
To get to Sandstone Peak you’ll have to drive about an hour north of the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica into Malibu. These are the directions according to Nick:
Heading north along the Pacific Coast Highway, on Yerba Buena Road at the restaurant Neptune’s Net make a right and take the narrow, windy road for 15 minutes.
You will pass a row of mailboxes (this is half way.) You will pass the Circle X Ranch ranger station (this is 3/4 way.) Continue a few miles past that where the parking lot will be on the left sitting a little higher than the road.
It’s a little bit of a trek but well worth it!

And for another fun idea of a nature filled excursion near Los Angeles try Catalina Island. Check out my recent article on Expedia Viewfinder where you’ll get tips for a foodie and romantic escape on the island. My post is called Rekindling Romance on Catalina Island.
