Looking for a posh night out in London? If so, I have you covered! On a recent trip to my favorite city, I headed over to The London Edition which proved to be an elegant and hip destination for dinner and drinks. The hotel is located near Oxford Circus but far enough off the main drag to be out of sight of the average tourist. Upon entering the lobby, the tall, ornate ceiling, the large bar glowing with back-lit bottles of spirits, and the chic crowd were all telltale signs I’d found a popular spot for hip and upper-class London locals. On Travel with Kate, I have a rating system to review hotels, restaurants and other travel experiences. And I…
London
London is an exciting foodie destination where cuisines from all over the world can be found with authenticity. And at Borough Market near London Bridge, you can taste many of these different flavors at the food stalls and small shops that fill the market. From artisan breads and cheese to paella with sangria, specialty chocolates, kebabs, pork sandwiches, and gelato the number of choices can be quite overwhelming. Lines for individual food stands can wrap around corners and cut through the crowds. You can sense an excitement in the air as people wait patiently for their meal to be served from a sizzling grill. I love coming to Borough Market to feel the energy of the place. But during lunch…
Escape with me to London for less than 30 seconds! I took this video yesterday evening on a walk along the Thames River in Central London. It was a magical moment during a beautiful Spring day in my favorite city. The light was shinning in that special way that it does here after it rains. The sky, bright blue and full of dense white clouds. Londoners and visitors were strolling and commuting with these transcendent views of bridges, water and old world charm. And that music was ambient music, a street performer playing some sort of homemade instrument! This is a rather new idea for me–these short videos giving a quick glimpse into a moment while traveling. Let me know what you think! Should I…
In an earlier video, I got a lesson from a dialect coach on how to speak with an authentic Londoner accent. Before we got to the lesson, she explained just how complex the accent landscape is in London and across the UK. Here’s the video.…
To be honest, I was not dying to try fish and chips when I arrived in London. But food critic, Daniel Young showed me the light and the subtle nuances of why Fish and Chips are still worth it. The trick is finding the chippies – that’s local lingo for fish and chip restaurants – that are up to par. And lucky for us, Daniel has traversed the city of London seeking out the best of the best. See, Daniel is a long-time food critic and writer who has produced five cookbooks, three restaurant guides, dozens of magazine articles, 100s of newspaper restaurant reviews as well as dining and tasting events in Europe and the US.…
I know. These days on Travel with Kate, it’s been all London, London, London. Well, that’s because I have formed a mild obsession about the place. And in this video, I indulge my fantasy of moving there by asking a group of American women living in London about their experiences moving to the city. Take a look and tell me what you think.…
